Violence Against Women International 365 Poster Exhibition

Glasgow is delighted to play host to the Violence Against Women International 365 Poster Exhibition as part of our 16 Days of Action campaign 2011. The Exhibition is a not for profit public awareness and educational project designed to highlight the global issues of violence against women and children. Venue: The exhibition in its entirity will be on display at The Burrell Collection and taster displays  at The Bridge Easterhouse. The exhibition can be viewed during the opening hours of the venues. Please note that public buildings will be closed on Wednesday 30th November.

Candle-lit Vigil

The Glasgow Feminist Network will be holding a candle-lit vigil to mark the International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women. This event will feature a speeck from Sandy Brindley, National Coordinator, Rape Crisis Scotland.

The vigil aims to highlight the rising tide of violence against women in Glasgow, where sex crimes are at their highest level for 5 years and to show that violence against women shold never be tolerated.

More Than Words

In the launch of 16 Days of Action for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Glasgow Life are taking part by organising displays of inspirational books which explore the many themes linked with violence against women. Look out for these displays in your local library. White ribbons, Bookmarks and programmes of activity will also be available.

Shoes Exhibition

This exhibition will display a collection of shoes donated by those who have lived with gendered based violence or who have supported someone who has, this is accompanied by the individuals story.

'Abandon The Knife': Guardian film screening

Directed by Sara Nason, this documentary tells the story of two young Kenyan girls, Nancy and Gertrude of the Pokot community, about to face a brutal passage into womanhood, resisting the traditional practice of female genital mutilation or cutting. Join us for a screening of the documentary film followed by an expert panel discussion and Q&A exploring the issue.

Scottish Women's Aid 35th Anniversary Exhibition

For 16 Days of Action to Eliminate Violence Against Women and in partnership with Scottish Women's Aid, we are proud to to present this exhibition, organised to celebrate the 35th anniversaryof Scottish Women's Aid. using photographs, film and memorabilia it will highlight the work undertaken to address the issue of domestic abuse in Scotland. The exhibition will encompass the campaigns, legislative and policy breakthoughs and developing understanding of the issue over the lifetime of the organisation. There is a launch event on Monday 28th November, from 5pm to 6pm places must be booked for the launch.

Women Make History Workshop: 16 Days of Action

The women's movement has had many successes over the decades, although often the ongoing experiences of discrimination can make it feel as though little ground has been made. Thsi event will higlight the violence against women campaign in Glasgow and Scotland  and claim it as one of the real success stories of the movement. using some of the documents from our unique collections at GWL we will chart the VAW campaign's growth over the past 30 years. We will explore its influences in both Government and public attitudes towards the continuing phenomenon of men's violence against women and children, with discussion about what the future could hold.

'63 Years On'

The Glasgow Violence Against Women Partnership is pleased to screen this powerful documentary depicting crimes commited against women during the Asia-Pacific War by the Japanese Imperial Army. It explores the lives of 5 courageous women who speak out about their experiences. The screening will be followed by an expert panel discussion and Q&A session.

Are We Getting It Right?

The LGBT Domestic Abuse Project invite you to a symposium exploring gay, bisexual and transgender men's experiences of gender based violence including domestic abuse. Speakers will include Cat Everett from Galop in London, the Voices Unheard project and LGBT Domestic Abuse Project.
