Commit - Act - Demand: We CAN End Violence Against Women

Why?

16 Days 2009 is being coordinated by Glasgow Violence Against Women Partnership (GVAWP) Campaign's  Working Group.  The group includes representatives from Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Community and Safety Services, Glasgow Community Planning Partners (CPP), Women's Voluntary Organisations and Culture and Sport Glasgow.

The events in each locality have been organised by the Violence Against Women Implementation Groups in each area.

Funding for 16 Days 2009 has come from Glasgow Community Planning Partnership Fairer Scotland Fund.

16 Days of Action For The Elimination of Violence Against Women runs from  the  25th November to the 10th December when organisations  worldwide raise awareness of violence against women.

In 1991 the 16 Days Campaign was envisioned by women from around the world who met together at the first meeting of the Women's Global Leadership Institute. It is thanks to their efforts and that of many women's rights activists around the world that 16 Days is the huge success and phenomenon that it is today.

2009 marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations formal recognition of 25th November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
